Ringing in 2019 w/ Family, Friends, & Food

Mon., Dec. 31: Dinner w/ R&J. Italian chicken & mushroom soup, burger patties, Sister Schubert dinner rolls, chicken & mushroom alfredo pasta, pork w/ orange sauce, broccoli. Yum!

Tues., Jan. 1: Chinese buffet w/ parents (both, at the same table :X). Ate dumplings & noodles, of course, plus braised beef, hibachi chicken, broccoli, creamy/cheesy spinach, mac & cheese, onion rings, eggroll, & finally, chocolate soft-serve ice cream. Food is always pretty good but slightly even better lately. Went to Wal-Mart after & bought even more Xmas decorations, now 75% off, including mini ornaments for $0.87/pk!
My weird cookie fortune & a funny (relevant) sign we saw at Wal-Mart:

Thurs., Jan. 3: Indian lunch buffet at Tamarind w/ Mom. :D Tandoori chicken, tikka masala chicken, chicken biryani (rice dish), palak paneer creamy spinach gravy w/ chickpeas, shahi korma cashew curry, kidney bean curry (chili?), fried veggie patty (samosa-like), mango chutney, naan bread, & finally, fruit salad custard. Everything was delicious!!

Fri., Jan. 4: Brunch at Sunrise Bread Co. w/ R&J & Rickster! Haven't seen him in years. It was really great to catch up. Ate a chocolate-orange scone. Big but a bit dry & crumbly, rather than a thick, crunchy muffin, the way I like it.

Wed., Jan. 9: Planned to go to Alfredo's for Italian lunch buffet, but it was closed due to new hours. Instead, we tried the Brazilian lunch buffet at Brasa's again. Really good, better than the first time (only 1 entree choice: fish & chips). This time, the lunch had 5 entree choices: mango-papaya grilled salmon, fried cod, beef empanada, grilled shrimp penne marsala, & BBQ platter (ribs & chicken, or grilled/fried shrimp substitute). Buffet came w/ 2 hot dishes (chicken gizzards, black beans & rice), 2 soups (Spanish meat stew, seafood coconut soup), & salad bar (chicken salad toast bites, potato salad, Italian pasta salad, caprese salad, pesto penne salad, roasted squash & zucchini w/ Brazilian vinaigrette salsa, salami & cheese, olives, regular salad bar). My BBQ plate w/ 4 ribs & 2 chicken thighs(!) was delicious, very tender & juicy, w/ a nice tangy BBQ sauce. Mom's salmon was not bad but a bit small. We really liked the chicken, caprese, & pasta salads, roasted veggies, & soups. We will definitely come back sometime.

Fri., Jan 11: Got take-out from Loyd Have Mercy for lunch w/ Dad, as he hadn't tried their "soul food" before. He ordered the slab of BBQ ribs, and I ordered the ox tail stew w/ rice, cornbread muffin, & 2 sides: fried green tomatoes & carrot souffle. We shared both, and he said it was good but a bit salty. Later, Mom & I finished the leftovers for dinner.
